Compared to the previous year, the turnover increased by EUR 39m (39%) which can be explained by increased TV income (EUR 43m) and advertising contracts. To that came revenue from transfers like Marc André ter Stegen and Sinan Kurt as well as the transfer of the former youth player from Olympiakos Piräus to FC Fulham.
In their report “Football in Germany – An Economic Comparison” which was released in February 2014, edelhelfer reported about the sales figures of the 18 football clubs in the season 2013/14. Compared with the teams from the 1. Bundesliga Mönchengladbach placed ninth and ranked in the middle of the turnover ranking behind the top teams Bayern München (EUR 480m), Borussia Dortmund (EUR 223.8m) and Schalke 04 (EUR 206.8m). In the new report Gladbach should significantly gain ground against the leading clubs.
