Basic-Fit acquires wellyou from AUCTUS

Basic-Fit, the European market leader in the discount fitness segment, has significantly expanded its presence in the German market through the acquisition of the North German fitness chain wellyou. The transaction includes 41 clubs and approximately 110,000 members. The cash purchase price amounted to 52 million euros, with the business previously generating a club-level EBITDA of 9.8 million euros. This acquisition grows the German Basic-Fit network from 74 to 115 company-owned clubs.

Private equity firm AUCTUS Capital Partners became the majority investor in wellyou in January 2017—a transaction supported at the time by advisory firm edelhelfer. Over the subsequent decade, AUCTUS systematically guided the company’s expansion across Northern Germany, doubling the number of facilities before completing a successful exit to Basic-Fit.

wellyou managing directors Christian Rapior and Markus Sigl, who played a pivotal role in steering the company through its growth phase, reflected on this milestone in industry media. Christian Rapior remarked: “I helped build wellyou over many years; it is a project very close to my heart—especially when I think of our fantastic employees.” Commenting on the ongoing market consolidation, Markus Sigl added: "Market consolidation is moving forward. For wellyou, our strategy has paid off: we are handing over a strong, well-positioned brand into capable and competent hands."
