The present brief report “Golf Market - Quo vadis?” illustrates that Germany is the 2nd largest golf-nation after England and ahead of Sweden. Though the market penetration in England (1,5%) and especially in Sweden (5,7%) is unequally higher than in Germany (0,8%). If there was a similar share in Germany like in Sweden, 5,5 million people would play golf. This data also corresponds to the potential demand within the non-golfing population in Germany which was detected in different reports from the past (Golfmarkt der Zukunft 2001/2005, Golf&Tourism Consulting in cooperation with the DGV; report on the golf market 2007, MRC), but the activation of this “free potential” through the national golf clubs did not appear.
Niels Gronau and Janosch Marx show in this study the long-term development of the number of golf-players in Germany and Europe, the Status Quo of the supply structure as well as the assessment of golf facilities.
